I came up with the idea for Sweetvember when I realized I crave sweets, But not just anytime of the year. It became apparent that my cravings for sugary goodness really kicked in during the fall. I am not sure if it’s the change in weather or the idea of warming up by the fire with a big cup of hot cocoa topped with whipped cream and homemade chocolate chip cookies. Nevertheless, Its cool outside and that means my sweet tooth is in full effect.
I was reading a local newspaper over my lunch break and came across an article on the “Cronut”. Cronut? What exactly is a Cronut? A Cronut is a product of a doughnut and a croissant. The article raved about the dessert, But it was at a casino restaurant. A Casino? I know, I know. I was thinking the same thing, That was until I decided to give the cronut a try.
The Final Cut Steakhouse located in the Hollywood Casino is not just any restaurant. It’s on the par of a five-star restaurant. Oh, Yes..I’m talking on the same level of Plaza III, Capital Grille and Ruth Chris. The restaurant is clean, modern, and upscale. So modern that you can look over the drink list on and read about million dollar memorabilia on an IPad as you wait for your meal. Also, The servers are well versed on the menu, attentive, and very friendly.
Let’s get to what you really want to hear about the… Cronut! When my waitress placed the beautiful presentation of the cronut in front of me. My first thought was this doughnut looks amazing. That was until I took my first bite, AMAZING is not the word. As a matter of fact, three bites *ok down one cronut and on to the next* my waitress asked me, “How are you enjoying it?” I had no words, It was unlike anything I have ever experienced. The flakiness of a croissant but the consistency of a doughnut (two of my favorite foods) can this be? Yes it can, Yes it can! The house made ice cream is a close second to my all time favorite butter pecan (Blue Bell) while the cinnamon anglaise’ paired perfectly.
