Summer is the perfect time to travel with girlfriends. By this time kids are out of school and in summer programs, the weather is fantastic, and honey-do lists are winding down. Most of us travel away to places like New York, San Francisco, Chicago, and Miami to get away. I am not knocking those places, but sometimes the cost can be a factor, and you still want to have a fantastic time with girlfriends. But not sacrifice value for a real getaway.
I started to research local cities to visit that are less than three hours away but offered all the fun and excitement of larger cities. During my research, I found a few cities that met that criterion. First up was the City of Springfield, which is the third largest city in Missouri. Springfield hosts a variety of local eateries, shops, attractions, and nightlife to please even the pickiest friends.
Where to stay?
My girlfriend and I stayed at Hotel Vandivort located in the heart of downtown Springfield. Hotel Vandivort’s historic structure was established in 1906 as an old Masonic temple. The Vandivort went through a massive renovation in the 1980’s as most of the space was divided into office spaces. John and Bill McQueary purchased the Vandivort a few years ago and created Hotel Vandivort while preserving a lot of the character and history of the structure. The hotel recently celebrated its one year Anniversary!!
The rooms are welcoming, upscale and very comfortable. The amenities included a Keurig with Starbucks coffee in each room. A refrigerator, glassware, snack and mini bar just to name a few. The bedding is a pure luxury as you will drift into slumber in softness. My room included a deep sunk-in tub which is girl’s dream, but also notable is the beautiful glass walk-in shower and the vanity lighting. Applying makeup was a breeze in this beautiful light.
My room also included a small lounge area which is perfect to host friend’s right before hitting the down or unwinding down before getting the day started. Each room is equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi so you’ll never miss out on what’s going on via the world of internet.
The staff was very accommodating and knowledgeable as they gave us recommendations on places to visit as we were newcomers to the area. Frank (the front desk attendant) was incredible; he helped us maneuver through the city without a GPS. Let’s not forget the housekeepers as well who kept our rooms well stocked throughout our stay.
Im always interested in seeing how people view and use their “staycation” great review #BLMGIRLS
