If you follow my blog, you should know that I am in love with Providence New American Kitchen. I’m sure by now you are thinking, Why? Well, I’m glad you asked. The restaurant is a hidden gem in the Power and Light District of downtown Kansas City, away from the club/night life scene. The parking is free and the valet staff is very friendly, so you are only a few steps away. The best thing is the restaurant; it boasts a clean, modern, and romantic scene which is guaranteed to add the spark back in your relationship or keep those flames burning to inferno. Although, the restaurant is an open concept, it will feel as if it’s just you and your dining partner there.
Here are a few new items I experienced during Kansas City Restaurant Week and as always I am never disappointed. The Blue Note Salad was fresh and delicate. I enjoyed the contrast between the tart granny smith apple and blue cheese with the slightly sweet balance of the blueberry vinaigrette. The Grilled Scottish Salmon was cooked to perfect. Most restaurants cannot find the right balance in salmon; usually it’s overcooked and dry. But Providence knows how to caress salmon the grilled like receiving your first kiss. It was perfect! The Blis maple glaze syrup gave the risotto and salmon a depth of flavor. While the apple and beet salad presented just the right amount of bite without being overwhelming. Lastly, The Providence Pear Cobbler is my new favorite desert at the restaurant. I was previously in love with the Sticky Toffee Pudding. But the pear cobbler took first place, the house made oat crumble has a light crisp butter flavor and for a moment, I thought it was a short bread cookie. (Amazing!) The honey gelato is delicate in flavor. And when all three (pear, crumble, ice cream) are combined on your spoon. The heavens open up and your taste buds rejoice. (Hallelujah)
