The Foodie: The Culinary Center of Kansas City
The Culinary Center of Kansas City is a unique venue in the Midwest where “culinarians” of all skill levels can gather together to celebrate the culinary arts in a variety of ways. Warm service, attention to detail and the commitment to go the extra step in everything we do are the hallmarks of our business philosophy. The center offers culinary classes, team-building activities, a great event space for private events, dinners on demand (take on meals) and a monthly staff lunch. Your foodie will go head over heels when you present them with a gift certificate. The best thing is the gift certificate is good for five years, so your giftee can attend at their leisure.
The Chocolate Lover: Christopher Elbow
From a young age, Christopher Elbow was drawn to the culinary arts, watching cooking shows while other kids watched cartoons. During a class trip to France at 16, Christopher became mesmerized with pâtissiers hand-crafting pastries and chocolates using traditional methods while incorporating their own unique features. The self taught Elbow went on to apprentice and work with many high level chefs around the country until the pastry chef position at The American Restaurant in Kansas City launched his venture into artisanal chocolates in 2003. I was first introduced to Christopher Elbow Chocolates at Halls Kansas City, it was during the holiday season when those artfully creative and enticing chocolates caught by eye as I passed the display. I finally gave in and decided to give a few of them a try. My favorites are the Fleur De Sel turtle and the caramel apple chocolate. I highly encourage you to purchase a variety, the chocolates are beautifully made and your chocolate lover will love you.
The Beer Lover- Chocolate Ale
One of the brightest stars in a city filled with culinary treasures, Christopher Elbow has been handcrafting masterpieces in chocolate for more than ten years. In that time the reputation of his artistic delicacies has spread around the globe. Elbow’s sweets are distinguished by their use of unusual and sometimes surprising flavors and ingredients; in that adventurous spirit we joined forces to bring you a very special Chocolate Ale. The reviews on this long awaited beer have been outstanding, Chocolate and Beer is a win-win.
The Get-away from it lover
Jefferson House is situated in the vibrant Westside neighborhood of downtown Kansas City. The House boasts stunning views of downtown and has been lovingly restored in a European style, by recent arrivals from Britain, Peter and Theresa Robinson. An eclectic mix of furniture and art, collected whilst traveling in Europe and from their home, the British Channel Island of Jersey, combine with beautiful textiles and ceramic work to create a unique ambiance. A garden with French boules court and patio and Corinthian front porch provide privacy for reading, lounging and dreaming. Guests can enjoy the diverse mix of restaurants, cafes and drinking establishments in the Westside area. The best part of your stay is that each days breakfast is unique and seasonal offering a new take on traditional favorites and British classics with a breakfast twist.
The Thrifter – MoKan Goodwill of Kansas City
I could not write a post without mentioning the Thrifter. Yes, Some people would love to receive a gift certificate to their favorite Thrift Store or Goodwill in preparation for all those great President’s Day sales.
The Bread lover – Farm to Market Bread Company
Farm to Market Bread Company is my absolute favorite bread maker. I love their uniquely deliciously baked combinations. The 14-oz. specialty bread is baked with Farm to Market’s Sourdough, cocoa, semi-sweet chocolate chunks, and Michigan-grown red tart dried cherries and contains no preservatives. Pair with a cup of coffee or cocoa for a sweet breakfast or enjoy as sweet treat.
