Yesterday, A girlfriend and I visited Chuy’s Mexican Restaurant on the Country Club Plaza. Chuy’s is located in place of the old Figlio’s Italian restaurant. I was so excited to learn there was a Mexican restaurant on the Plaza the majority are upscale steakhouses.
The original Chuy’s Restaurant started in 1982 in Austin, Texas. The owners turned a barbecue joint into a Mexican food restaurant. According to the story, they spent all their money on opening the restaurant with only $20.oo left to spend on decor. But they didn’t let that stop them. Fast forward, to today Chuy’s has more than twenty locations opened across the nation.
Let’s review shall we? Chuy’s is a fun, fresh, and lively restaurant. The decor is eclectic, fun, and unexpected. I even saw the tail end of a car coming out of a wall, a palm tree, and flying fish. Yes, flying fish! The decor is so intriguing you will find yourself walking around the restaurant to see what see you can discover. All tortilla’s are hand made via a station in the restaurant. Which explained the amazing thin, crispy, and delicious chips which accompanied the freshly made salsa.
Being a mom of two, I found Chuy’s to be family friendly establishment. I saw several families, date-nighters, and even a girl’s night out group enjoying themselves. Chuy’s is perfect for any occasion.
I ordered Chuy’s signature Chica-Chica Boom Boom. Which consist’s of chicken enchilada’s with their signature sauce. The chicken was cooked perfectly, moist, seasoned, and tender. The sauce was a little spicy, But I love spicy!
My girlfriend ordered the chicken flauta’s with a smoky red sauce. I admit I am a fan of On the Border’s. But Chuy’s may have taken the throne. Their flauta’s were amazing!
Our waitress Camille was patient, know’s the menu cover to cover, and gave up great recommendations (Ask for her). She gave us a sample of jalapeno cream sauce. Let this be your warning! This sauce is seriously addictive!!! She was kind to give us a small sample to go. I planned on saving it until the next day to snack on. But it did not make it through the night. The great thing about this sauce is you can order it to go. We finished the meal with the Sopaipilla’s which were a nice finish to our meal.
